August 2013 Ipsy Review: Glamour Academy

What do you get when you sign up with Ipsy?

For $10 a month (plus shipping for some; $4.95 for me), subscribers receive a Glam Bag with samples and full-sized beauty products which are unique to them and the profile they filled out when they signed up! You don't know what you're getting ahead of time. The only thing you know is that it follows a theme. This month's theme was Glamour Academy.

What I got:

Revolution Lipstick by Urban Decay

Colour: Anarchy

Cost: $7.00

Thoughts: Urban Decay is an amazing brand, so I was super excited to get this lipstick. It goes on so smooth and feels great on my lips. I was really happy with the colour too!

Michael Todd
Jojoba Charcoal Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub

Thoughts: I think Ipsy read my mind when they sent me this. I was just in the market for a new exfoliating scrub! I really like the feel of this on my skin and it smells great too! For a full bottle, it's $18. Ipsy members get 30% off. I'm contemplating purchasing it.

Alight Multi-Mineral BB Cream
0.34 fl oz/10 ml

Cost: $4.00

Thoughts: I don't use foundation or foundation primers (blasphemy, I know) so I don't really need this. I was willing to give it a shot though. It blended well with my skin, but left it sparkling. I don't like when products add sparkles to my face.

Pixi Beauty
Lash Booster Mascara

Cost: $4.00

Thoughts: This was okay. It extended my lashes slightly but it didn't make a huge difference. I definitely wouldn't buy this but I'm happy to get it for free.

MICA Beauty Cosmetics
Mineral Eyeshadow

Colour: Bronze

Cost: $14.95

Thoughts: As you can tell from the picture, I struggled to get the powder through the little holes. That might be a good thing though since this is mineral eyeshadow and it tends to go all over the place if you're not careful.

I actually received this same eyeshadow, in a different colour, in my April Ispy bag. I've been using it regularly though, so despite the shadow making a bit of a mess when its applied (if not careful), I really like it!

The whole Glam Bag, with the bag!

Overall, I'm pretty happy with this bag. Really glad I got the facial scrub, the lipstick and the eyeshadow. Disappointed with the lash booster and the BB cream, but I still plan to use both products until they're done. I know some Ipsy members got the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer and I was really happy I didn't get that! I have about four samples of that sitting around at home from a makeup purchase I made last November. Can you tell that I really don't use foundation?

I was also super happy that I didn't get blush!

Total cost of bag: $35.45
How much I paid: $14.95
Savings: $20.50

  1. Ahh I'm so sad that I didn't get the UD lipstick. I got some cherry lip balm instead. And I wanted the pumpkin mask. It's like Ipsy doesn't even know me lol But I'm excited to try some of the things I got and the bag is really cute!

  2. how cool! I love that Pacifica brand, but I've only ever seen the lotions I didn't know they made makeup. I have seen so many of these types of things, like Birch Box, lately and I'm so curious! On one hand I think "its only $10" but then I also think it may be a waste if I don't LOVE everything in it. Such a tough one!

  3. I was just thinking the same about the eye shadow! I got the same one months ago too. Strange they would do repeats?!

  4. I just recently cancelled my Hulu plus subscription because I wasn't really using it, plus I could use the money. But I may just have to start getting this one...so far it seems like you get the most bang for your buck out of all the other companies I have seen like this!

  5. Update: I subscribed using your referral code!! Hahaha. I'm on the waitlist. It was kind of a spontaneous thing. I figure I may as well try it for a month or two!

  6. The Pacifica BB Cream broke me out :(

  7. that lipstick is awesome! i always stop and spray pacifica when i'm at this one grocery store that carries it!

I love comments. Thanks for making me smile!
